New Jersey Transit says a man sat on the tracks and was struck by a train near the Plainfield rail station.

NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says the man made no attempt to move as the engineer sounded the horn and tried to stop the train.

Durso says the man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for treatment of severe body trauma.

Durso says the Raritan Valley Line train was headed to Newark with about 150 passengers aboard when the accident occurred at 5:25 a.m. Monday.

Durso says the passengers were transferred to another train.

The accident caused delays on Raritan Valley trains for about 90 minutes.
