Authorities say a man who died after the minivan he was driving ended up in a swimming pool at a private home may have suffered a medical episode just before the accident occurred.

Manalapan police tell the Asbury Park Press that 49-year-old Robert Koenig of Marlboro was westbound on Taylor Mills Road when his minivan struck a parked car around 2:20 p.m. Saturday and left the roadway.

The vehicle then entered the backyard of a residence on nearby Meadow Lane, where it crashed through a vinyl fence and sank into the pool.

Koenig was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Police and emergency responders soon arrived on scene and jumped into the pool to try to free Koenig, who was entrapped. A Cablevision crew working nearby helped by keeping the mini van floating by putting 2 X 4 pieces of wood underneath according to the Manalapan Patch.

Koenig later died at a hospital. The cause of death has not been determined
