TINTON FALLS — A man died on on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County on Sunday after he fell out of a moving vehicle.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn said Jason Gonzalez, of Freeport, New York, who had just turned 43 on Saturday, was driving a car that broke down along the northbound Parkway just south of the Asbury Park tolls.

A Lincoln Continental pulled over after Gonzalez walked along the shoulder of the road looking for help, according to Flynn, who said Gonzalez entered that car. He then fell out of the vehicle and died, Flynn said.  Flynn did not disclose the identity of the driver.

The circumstances of why he fell out of the car are unclear, according to Flynn, who said the incident remains under investigation and no criminal charges have been filed.

It was the second fatality of the day on a major New Jersey highway. Mike Devinio, 24, of Lyndhurst, a former Paramus Catholic high school football player, died in a crash on Route 3 in East Rutherford in the early hours of Sunday.
