OCEAN TOWNSHIP — A domestic dispute in Monmouth County led to a stabbing on Wednesday afternoon, prosecutors said.

Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Charles Webster said township police received many 911 calls about the dispute at 25 Rubin Lane in the Cedar Village at Ocean, a 55-and-older community. When they arrived about 3 p.m., they found a 50-year-old woman who had been stabbed several times by 60-year-old Francis "Frank" Ambessi.

The woman was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries, according to Webster, who did not disclose the woman's identity. The woman was in stable condition Thursday morning.

Webster said Ambessi was taken into custody and is charged with attempted murder, possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Ambessi is being held with bail set $400,000 with no 10 percent option.
