A Manhattan man was arrested for abandoning a kitten doused in motor oil in the street. The kitten was found in a box tied shut outside a Fort Lee apartment building.

The six-month-old female kitten was found late in the evening of May 16 outside the high rise, Bergen County Acting Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said. Rescuers took her to Oradell Animal Hospital to be cleaned, X-rayed and treated. She was then sent to the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teteboro.

NJ Advance Media reported the kitten's rescuers named her Olive Oil.

Kazem Shirinzad was charged with several animal abuse and neglect charges. Shirinzad worked as a tow truck driver in nearby Palisades Park.

The Bergen County SPCA created a Go Fund Me page to help pay for Olive Oil's care.
