A depressed man in China reportedly tried to kill himself by sneaking into the tiger enclosure at a local zoo. The man is supposed to have gestured wildly to get them to attack, but in what has to be a tremendous blow to his self-esteem, the tigers refused to eat him.

According to TIME, witnesses say he spent around 20 minutes trying to entice the tigers into eating him, but they just wouldn’t consume him. They did, however, drag him around by his neck and apparently roughed him up a little, but they did not devour him as he had hoped. He was eventually rescued by zoo personnel; the man is being treated for depression. I don’t think I have ever heard of someone going to the zoo to kill themselves, but if you were going to, I would hope you could wait until the park was closed so you wouldn’t traumatize the kids there.
