U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez continues to fight federal corruption charges, but most New Jersey voters would prefer he do it in private.

A new poll released on Nov. 11 said most want Menendez to resign.

The Quinnipiac University poll survey shows more than half of the nearly 1,500 voters polled want him out of office.

His approval rating is a 42 to 36 negative.

"Sen. Robert Menendez, facing federal corruption charges, should quit, voters say. They split over whether what he did was illegal or simply unethical. But they think the prosecutors' charges were based on fact, not prompted by politics," said Maurice Carroll, Quinnipiac University poll assistant director.

Menendez has refused to resign and has been raising piles of money for his legal defense fund to try and prove his innocence against federal corruption charges.
