Federal prosecutors say 36-year-old Ketan Maniar, an Indian national, is charged with stealing trade secrets for his own economic benefit.

According to a complaint made public Wednesday, Maniar was an engineer at a medical technology company in Franklin Lakes. He was part of a group that was manufacturing pre-fillable syringes and pen injectors.

In the weeks leading up to his resignation last month, Maniar allegedly downloaded 8,000 files containing step-by-step assembly instructions and invoices for equipment to create self-administered disposable pens.

Maniar was due to make an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in federal court in Newark. A message left for Maniar's attorney was not immediately returned.
