Looking for Work While on the Job [POLL/AUDIO]

The busiest time for job hunting is 11 a.m. Monday, according to a pair of recent surveys. Nearly three-quarters of United States employees admitted to looking at job sites while at work. Saturday, a day off for many full-time employees, came in as the least popular day for job seeking.

Joy Schneer, professor of management at Rider University, said she's not surprised by the findings.

"On Friday, you're done with the week. You just want to play and relax on the weekend," Schneer said. "Then Monday comes along and you get to the office, and you're reminded how unhappy you are at work."

Job Hunting on the Clock Hurts Productivity

She said the job hunt process is not a pleasant one, so many people like to add it to an already-unpleasant task - work.

The findings aren't good news for employers. Searching for work while on the job, obviously, makes a dent in a worker's productivity.

Schneer noted, though, employers who are miserable enough to look for a job while working probably aren't being too productive anyway. Still, she suggested workers conduct the job hunt in the off-hours.

"If they don't want to do it on the weekend, then do it in the evening, outside of work on their personal computers," she said.
