Sweeney and Mayor-elect Don Guardian are set to have lunch Wednesday at the White House, a famed city sub shop, where they will discuss the struggling casino town's future.

The Republican Guardian narrowly unseated Democratic Mayor Lorenzo Langford in the Nov. 5 election. Langford had fractured relationships with Sweeney and Gov. Chris Christie.

Though he doesn't know Guardian personally, the Republican governor welcomed the change in leadership. The head of the city's special improvement district becomes its first Republican mayor in 23 years.

Christie is midway through a plan to rejuvenate Atlantic City, which has seen increased gambling competition in neighboring states.

The 12 casinos have seen a steady drop in revenues over the past five years.
