LINDEN — A former religion teacher and youth leader already serving prison time for possessing images of child abuse has now confessed to sexually assaulting two young boys.

Gregory Aker, 46, pleaded guilty this week before a Superior Court judge in Elizabeth two two counts of second-degree sexual assault.

The two boys were younger than 13 at the time of the abuse, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office. He faces five to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced June 24.

In April he was sentenced by a federal judge to 96 months in prison on federal child pornography charges. He also will be subject to lifetime of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.

Aker was arrested in 2014, when authorities seized electronic devices with more than 600 images and dozens of videos depicting child sexual abuse. He was first accused in 2014 of molesting the boys.
