Licenses To Display Veteran Status

Legislation just signed into law by Gov. Chris Christie allows the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to indicate a person’s status as a veteran on their driver’s license and other forms of identification issued by the MVC.

The bill is sponsored by, among others, Sen. Kevin O’Toole and Assemblyman Dave Rible.

“This legislation provides a convenient and efficient way for honorably discharged veterans to display their status instead of having to present other cumbersome forms of identification,” said Rible. “Identifying one’s veteran status on a driver’s license will make things easier for both the person who served our country with honor and the inquiring entity.”

A veteran is classified as a person who has been honorably discharged from the active military service of the United States. The veteran will be required to provide a copy of their DD-214 or federal activation orders showing service.

“This law allows our most honorable public servants to show proof of their veteran status on a daily basis,” said O’Toole. “It’s an easy offering that our heroes and heroines have requested to make their lives a little easier.”
