Leadership Shakeup for NJ GOP Legislators
Two Republican lawmakers who didn’t support keeping Tom Kean Jr. as minority leader in the New Jersey Senate have lost their party leadership posts.
State Sens. Kevin O’Toole, who had been the Republican whip, and Christopher “Kip” Bateman, the Deputy Conference Leader, were absent from the 2014 leadership team Kean announced Monday. Both lawmakers had held top party positions since 2008.
Bateman was among the senators who had backed O’Toole for the minority leader post last November, after Republicans failed to pick up any seats in legislative elections.
Bateman’s post was taken by state Sen. Jennifer Beck. Kean did not name a new whip.
