Tom Logue was with his family on Long Beach Island on Father's Day when he saw the boy struggling offshore. With the help of a wave, he pulled the 8-year-old back to the beach.

The National Association of Letter Carriers presented the 51-year-old Ocean County resident with the National Hero of the Year Award on Thursday.

Logue tells the Asbury Park Press that he never thought he'd receive such attention.

New Jersey's beaches had many problems with rip currents and rough surf this past summer.
