Lawrence Woman, 75, Badly Burned in Condo Fire

A fire inside a Lawrence condominium over the weekend has left a 75-year-old woman with severe burns to 90 percent of her body, authorities said.

The fire broke out in the Colts Circle residence of Barbara Vocolo late Sunday morning, according to a news release from the Mercer County Prosecutor's office. Firefighters heard a woman screaming in the apartment and broke down the door to find Volcolo lying in bed.

Vocolo was initially taken to Capital Health at Fuld before being transported to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where she remained Monday morning.

An initial investigation has determined that the fire started at the foot of her bed from an undetermined open flame, the prosecutor's office said, adding that foul play is not suspected.
