An approaching front will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms to New Jersey, with cooler temperatures expected by the upcoming Labor Day Weekend.

Today will be the fifth consecutive day of 90+ degree temperatures somewhere in New Jersey. The heat wave ends after today, as cooler and drier air will arrive just in time for the holiday weekend.

Thursday will be marked by morning fog, increasing clouds, and continuing heat and humidity. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s for the vast majority of the Garden State this afternoon, with cooler lower 80s along the coast. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is in effect once again today. That means persons sensitive to ground-level ozone, such as those with breathing issues, should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.

As a cold front approaches tonight, we'll add a chance for showers and thunderstorms to the forecast, after about 7 p.m. That front doesn't look that impressive, so unfortunately we won't get the drenching rains we need right now. Any showers and storms should be isolated - while most of the state will likely stay dry, there could be some surprise localized downpours.

The chance for stray showers and storms looks to continue through the daytime hours on Friday. Skies should clear a bit, with a stiff 20 mph breeze. Temperatures will be at least 10 degrees cooler on Friday, with highs in the lower 80s.

Every weekend since the 4th of July has been dry along the Jersey Shore, and the Labor Day Weekend will continue that trend. Saturday might be a bit cool and breezy at the Jersey Shore in particular, with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 70s. Inland New Jersey will likely see lower 80s with comfortable humidity on Saturday. Sunday and Monday will be picture-perfect, with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.
