The four-alarm blaze broke out around 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Crest Foam Industries building on Carol Place in Moonachie. It was brought under control about 90 minutes later.

Officials say 17 people were inside the building when the blast occurred, but all were able to escape the flames. Authorities say the blast apparently was sparked by a volatile mixture of hydrogen and oxygen.

The fire produced a lot of smoke, and officials advised residents to stay indoors and keep their windows closed as a precaution.

Hazmat teams determined that the public was not at risk for any chemical exposure, but they are continuing to monitoring the situation.
