MIDDLESEX — Police closed down a carnival early on Saturday when several "minor disturbances" broke out on the grounds at Mountain View Park off Route 28

Middlesex Borough Police Chief Matthew Geist said in a statement that the Middlesex Firemen’s Carnival was closed down a half-hour early at when the combination of large crowds and disturbances around the grounds "posed a threat to public safety." Police from surrounding towns and State Police were brought in to help empty the grounds.

RLS Metro Breaking News reported the incident began when about a dozen people began fighting on the grounds which spread to about 100 people.

Geist said there was no evidence that any activity on the grounds was gang related.

“The crowd was dispersed without incident. No injuries were reported and there were no arrests,' Geist said.
