Rick Astley burst onto the musical scene in 1987 and dominated the pop charts, with his four single releases reaching the top 10 in the US charts (he was even more successful in the UK). His debut single 'Never Gonna Give You Up' went to number one in 25 countries, including here in the US where it was #1 for two weeks. His follow up single, 'Together Forever' also went to number one. 'It Would Take A Strong Strong Man' peaked at #10 and 'She Wants To Dance With Me' hit #6.

He may be best known to a younger generation for the Internet meme of “Rickrolling” where the video of 'Never Gonna Give You Up' replaces a video the viewer is expecting. It is estimated that the number of “Rickrolled” views is in the hundreds of millions.

Ashley retired in 1993, but came back in the early 2000s and this year released an album titled, 50... for his age. This album spawned the song I requested that Big Joe play; it is the only time I have ever requested a current release: 'Keep Singing.'
