Keansburg Woman Charged After High-Speed Chase

Authorities say a motorist led police on a high-speed pursuit through several Monmouth County towns that ended after her two front tires were severely damaged.

No injuries were reported and no cars were damaged during the chase, which began early Monday in Holmdel and ended in Middletown. The driver, 31-year-old Michelle Zahner of Keansburg, faces eluding charges and several motor vehicle violations after reportedly reaching speeds near 100 mph.

Authorities say a Holmdel police officer tried to stop Zahner's car because it didn't have any license plates, but she sped away as the officer approached her car. Zahner then stopped two more times, only to drive off as the officer got out of his car.

Zahner was being held on $40,000 bail. It's not known if she's retained an attorney.
