A spokesman for the Port Authority says the 30-year-old man parked his car on the bridge late Wednesday and jumped off.

Two witnesses saw the man jump and called police at 11:35 p.m.

NYPD harbor unit officers rescued the man and brought him to the Elizabeth, N.J. marina.

The man was alert when he was rescued. He was taken to University Medical Center in Newark for treatment and observation.

New York City firefighters and Port Authority police officers assisted with the rescue.

The man's car was towed from the bridge.
