Judge nixes bridge lane-closing suit against Christie allies

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A federal judge has dismissed a class-action lawsuit filed by people who were stuck in traffic when lanes of the George Washington Bridge were closed without warning in 2013.

The judge's ruling Monday allows the plaintiffs to refile some of the claims.

An investigation into the lane closures led to the indictments of a former aide to Gov. Chris Christie and a former Christie ally at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The lane closures allegedly were orchestrated for political retribution against the mayor of Fort Lee for not endorsing Christie.

Former aide Bridget Kelly and former Port Authority official Bill Baroni were among defendants in the lawsuit. Christie isn't a defendant.

The judge wrote the plaintiffs failed to describe each defendant's role in the alleged scheme.
