Judge: AC Mayor Erred in Banning Casino Patrols

A judge has ruled Atlantic City's mayor overstepped his authority when he ordered police not to conduct regular patrols of casino parking garages.

Deputy Police Chief Ernest Jubilee had assured the public of a police presence in the garages after a carjacking in September left a tourist dead and a friend seriously injured. Mayor Lorenzo Langford then issued an executive order banning the patrols.

State Superior Court Judge Julio Mendez ruled Friday that daily police operations fall under the domain of city law enforcement officials.

The judge threw out Langford's lawsuit against Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel, who had sided with police.

Three Camden men were arrested for the carjacking, in which the victims were robbed then forced to drive to an alley where they were shot.
