Joanne Milne Hears for the First Time

This British story will make even the most hard-hearted individual well up. A 40 year old woman who was deaf from birth and was starting to go blind, as well. She had cochlear implant surgery to allow her to hear, but had to wait four excruciating weeks to find out whether the operation was successful; well, it was, and her first encounter with music (John Lennon’s “Imagine”) was caught on video. Imagine having one of your senses restored and how happy you would be; its a great modern-medical-marvel story. The woman, named Joanne, asked her friend to put together a mixtape to introduce her to music; what songs would you put on a tape for someone who was about to hear music for the first time? Rock?
