A Jersey City senior center is unable to hold events in its multi-purpose room following the theft of an air conditioning unit, which was bought to replace one stolen two weeks ago.

The Jersey Journal that a large air conditioning unit stolen Thursday from the Maureen Collier Memorial Senior Citizens Center was a brand-new replacement for one stolen two weeks ago.

The two units were valued at $3,200 and $3,600.

The theft has rendered the multi-purpose room unusable because of sweltering temperatures.

Jersey City police are asking for the public's help in solving the thefts.

The center serves lunch daily to up to 60 seniors who visit the facility.
