Jersey City officer puts on parade for little boy with terminal cancer
Thanks to Sergeant Melendez of the Jersey City Police Department for sending us a note about a very special officer who we are highlighting as this week's Blue Friday honoree.
We are honoring Jersey City Police Officer Adrien Murrell and Captain Edgar Martinez for their efforts to make a young boy's dream come true who is suffering with terminal cancer. Officer Murrell and Captain Martinez created a memory that will never be forgotten by this little boy. The day included a parade, a meeting with some superheroes and even a ride in the Batmobile!
Parth Patel is afflicted with Ewing sarcoma, a form of cancer in children and adolescents that forms a tumor in bone or soft tissue. He was first diagnosed in 2014 and has a very short period to live.
The fact that officer Murrell went to great lengths to make Parth's dream comes true just gives me a chill. These are the stories that the media doesn't report nearly enough on. Police like Officer Murrell should be celebrated for their efforts. And a special thanks to Captain Edgar Martinez, for helping make this dream a reality. In any undertaking like this, I'm sure there is a lot of red tape and somehow between Officer Murrell and Captain Martinez, they cut through all of it and made it an amazing day for Patel.
Officer Murrell and Captain Martinez embody everything #BlueFriday is about.
