Jersey City Ferry Crash Injures 7

The captain and crew on board a ferry boat that made a "hard landing" north of its Jersey City pier destination injured 7 people including the captain have passed an alcohol test.

New York Waterway spokesman Pat Smith told the Jersey Journal the boat came in to the Paulus Hook dock at Exchange Place "harder than it should have" at 4:20 this afternoon.

The Jersey Journal reports the boat, operated by Goldman Sachs and piloted by a New York Waterway employee, actually hit the dock at Owen Grundy Park north of Paulus Hook. Police say the dock will need to be inspected for damage.

24 passengers and 3 crew members were on board at the time of the incident according to NBC 4 New York.

The Star Ledger reports the crew and captain passed an alcohol test after the incident on Friday. Results of a drug test come back on Tuesday.

One side of the boat appears to have been heavily damaged.

The Jersey City Medical Center said that seven people were evaluated for injuries at the scene and that two passengers and two crew members were taken to the hospital. All four were released from the hospital by Friday night. "Nobody got hurt that bad. It was a lucky day," passenger Hatidza Becovic, who said she hurt her knees and elbows in the accident, told The Jersey Journal.

"Everyone on the boat fell down," Hitidza Becovic told the Jersey Journal. "There were a lot of people, a lot of kids on the boat." One side of the boat appears to have been heavily damaged. The family of an injured crew member says his legs and abdomen were swelling after being thrown several feet.

Jersey City Police, the U.S. Coast Guard and NYPD Harbor Unit are all investigating the incident.
