Come into Historic Whitesbog Village fro a family friendly hike and explore the sights and sounds of our trails. Meet up with experienced family hike leaders at 10 am in front of the General Store on the 2nd Friday every other month. Enjoy nature with a tidbit of history! Reservations are encouraged, but not required. You can register via whitesbog.org/calendar, there is a $5 per family donation request.

CAPE MAY COUNTY


Join in the fun of a January Polar Bear Plunge at the Wildwoods Convention Center and the Wildwoods Beach! Registration begins at 10 am. Plunge begins at 1 pm. Event supports training and competition for more than 22,000 athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey.

ESSEX


Winter is a special time for the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum. Join Cora's Conservation Corps teen volunteers as they guide you through the woods learning and looking for winter signs of wildlife, and how you can be involved as a Citizen Scientist. Hikes will last about 45 minutes and depart at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. Suggested donation: $5/member, $10/non-member. Register online.

Jersey City is home for the MAC Championship, a major dancesport event held annually over the Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend. If you like "Dancing With The Stars," you'll love this three day competition featuring America's top collegiate and amateur Latin and Ballroom dancers. Teams from more than 30 colleges will compete for the right to represent their school at the USA Dance National Championships. America's best amateur dancers from 8 years old to 80 years young also compete for top honors. MAC features amazing music and heart pounding performances. The Garden State Outdoor Sports Show will take place at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center in Edison. There will be 200 plus exhibiting companies and over 15,000 attendees it is the east coast's premier event.

Come see  spectacular orchid exhibits showcasing plants grown in homes and greenhouses across the tri-state area. Workshops were held to show you how you can grow orchids in your home. Show Ribbons, Best of the Blue Rosettes and Trophies will be awarded. Renown orchid vendors sell plants and supplies. The North Jersey Orchid Society is dedicated to the appreciation and conservation of orchids and to fostering the art of orchid growing. Major society events include monthly meetings, two orchid auctions a year, an annual show, a Holiday party, and special outings and events organized by our members. MONMOUTH COUNTY


One of the most highly praised operas of recent years, which had its premiere at the Salzburg Festival in 2000, Kaija Saariaho's yearning medieval romance L'Amour de Loin ("Love From Afar"), has its Met premiere this season. The production is by Robert Lepage, co-produced with L'Opéra de Québec, where it premiered to acclaim last summer, in collaboration with Ex Machina. Debuting Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki leads the performance, which stars Susanna Phillips as Clémence, Eric Owens as Jaufré, and Tamara Mumford as the Pilgrim who carries messages of love between them.
