The Board Of Education gave preliminary approval to the move last night which could raise about $50,000 in revenue according to the Asbury Park Press.

The policy, if given final approval, would require 50 percent of funds raised to go towards the cost of running the buses.

The rest could go towards other school programs. The board would have final say over the ads and could reject an ad. Alcohol, political, tobacco, religion and any other ad found controversial would not be allowed.

School Business Administrator Michelle Richardson tells the Press  that buses would not require much work to accommodate the 2 foot-by-3 foot magnetized signs.

According to Jackson’s policy, 50 percent of the money generated must be used to offset fuel costs for student transportation. The remainder can be used by the school for other programs or services.

The Upper Freehold and Evesham Township school districts already have adopted bus advertising.
