It is if you’re using the Progressive Insurance dongle to get a lower rate. At least that’s what a security researcher says. Cory Thuen is quoted in an Arstechnica.com article as saying that the dongle leaves the automobile exposed to a wireless attack because of lax security.

He also says that the port where the dongle is inserted is connected to the other systems of the car meaning, theoretically, a hacker could take control of the braking or steering systems. Progressive, of course, will admit no security breach in the two million cars that are using the dongle that records driving habits.
