Former two-term Gov. Brendan Byrne says in a column in Monday's Star-Ledger newspaper that "word on the street is that Cory Booker is a great political leader, but not a great administrator."

Byrne says "you really need the quality of administration if you're going to be governor."

In any case, the 88-year-old ex-governor says nobody can beat Republican Gov. Chris Christie at this point.

Byrne's comments came as he weighed whether Booker would likely consider a run for U.S. Senate or governor more appealing. He didn't comment on a possible Senate candidacy by Booker.

The Newark mayor says he will make his plans known soon.
