Andre Fields appeared Wednesday in state Superior Court in Newark. The 31-year-old Irvington resident is charged with killing 17-year-old Cheyanne Bond on June 29.

Bond is also from Irvington.

Prosecutors say Fields and another person approached Bond and a friend while they were walking on a street in Newark and attempted to rob the pair of the iPhone. Bond and the unidentified friend were both shot, but the friend survived.

Fields has been charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, conspiracy and weapons offenses and is being held on $1 million bail. The second suspect is at large.
