Inmate Seriously Hurt In Prison Fall
Officials say an inmate has suffered serious injuries after she apparently fell onto a concrete area inside the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Hunterdon County.
Department of Corrections spokesman Matthew Schuman tells the Star-Ledger that the inmate was found around 8:20 p.m. Sunday. She was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
It was not immediately known how the woman was hurt. Schuman says she “apparently fell.”
The inmate, who was not identified, is one of 63 inmates housed in a maximum security unit inside the prison complex. Schuman says Edna Mahan, the state’s only women’s prison, has about 750 inmates.
