Liviu Holca of Stafford Township also faces weapons charges in the 25-count indictment made public on Monday by Ocean County prosecutors. He could face several years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Holca's Manahawkin-based practice was shut down after he was arrested in January, and the state Board of Medical Examiners announced in June that his medical license had been temporarily suspended.

Authorities have claimed that Holca was illegally distributing highly addictive opiate painkillers and other prescription drugs with no medical justification. They say he allegedly pocketed large sums of cash in exchange for the prescriptions.

A telephone number for Holca could not be located Monday.
