MIDDLETOWN — A Monmouth County baby that couldn't wait to get to a hospital to be born was brought into the world with the help of some police officers.

Kristen Erickson and her husband Roy were driving on Route 35 Saturday afternoon, headed to the hospital, but the labor was going too quickly, police said. They pulled over into the parking lot of the Comfort Inn along the highway and called 911, which brought Patrolman Nicholas Manochio and Corporal Ryan Riffert to the parking lot, where they delivered baby Axl into the world, police said.

Port Monmouth First Aid and MONOC Paramedics took over medical care, and took mother and baby to Riverview Medical Center, according to police.

They said Erickson and her newborn son are in good health.
