In a claim that's dubious at best, the Daily Mail has decided that today, January 6th, is the most miserable day of the year, at least in Great Britain. I suppose this would be surprising news to anyone who celebrates Christmas (or "Little Christmas") on January 6th, but for most Christians, today marks the end of the Christmas season.

How did the Daily Mail determine that today is Blue Monday? They built on the earlier work of others who had studied debt levels, weather, and failed New Year's resolutions, among others; then researchers studied the words used in tweets around this time of year and determined that the most negatives tweets sent by Britons will be sent today. The Daily Mail also notes that today is "Divorce Monday", being "the most popular day of the year for starting divorce proceedings".

If you're curious, the Daily Mail says that the happiest days of the year are Christmas Eve and Day, followed by New Year's Day.
