The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office says the skeletal remains discovered in Green Brook have been positively identified as those of Joseph Williams of Long Hill Township. The 50-year-old Williams was reported missing in 2006.

Two hunters discovered the remains in January 2012. Authorities initially thought the skeleton might be related to the disappearance of a 33-year-old mother of three, who vanished in 2006. That case is still open.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano says the remains were tested at the state police lab and a DNA depository at the University of North Texas. A prosecutor's office spokesman says a cause of death hasn't been established.

New Jersey's medical examiner's office concluded last week that the remains' were Williams'.
