MORRISTOWN — An overturned tractor trailer carrying a load of paint closed down Route 287 in North Jersey on Friday morning.

State Police said a car went off the right side of the southbound side around 5:30 a.m. just south of Exit No. 33 for Harter Road in Harding Township causing a tractor trailer to overturn and spilling a load of latex paint across all lanes.

The driver of the car suffered a deep cut to the head while the truck driver was knocked unconscious for a time, according to police, who said an investigation is underway

A hazardous material team was called out to clean up the paint, closing all lanes except for the shoulder for a time.

The clean up and investigation caused delays on Route 24 and Route 202 by drivers trying to avoid the delays on Route 287.

As of 8:30 a.m., the left and center lanes remained closed. Police did not know how long the lanes would remain closed.
