With the holiday season upon us, charities and food banks around New Jersey are in need of cash and food donations for people and families who don't have the means to celebrate Thanksgiving for various reasons.

Below are seven different organizations that are doing all they can to help our fellow New Jerseyans. We have contact information, dropoff dates, times and locations, as well as specific items each organization is looking for. From now until Nov. 30, All Village ShopRite stores will be displaying Holiday Food Bags by the front registers that include all the trimmings for a holiday meal. You can pick up a bag for $10.00 when you check out and they will coordinate delivery to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, who will get it to families in need.

Center for Food Action

The Center for Food Action is distributing Thanksgiving dinners to families who can't afford it. They are looking to collect turkeys, stuffing, gravy and more. They also welcome supermarket gift certificates.

You can donate food to Mercer Street Friends, who will distribute the food to their food pantries or meal houses, which there are over 40 of throughout Mercer County.

NORWESCAP aims at creating many different opportunities to make less fortunate families succeed. They have food distribution programs year round, but this time of year is as important as ever.

The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties has a turkey drop off program until November 16th. You can drop off frozen turkeys Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at one of five WindMill locations throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Interfaith Food Pantry

Interfaith Food Pantry has set a goal of 1,600 turkeys, as well as bags of Thanksgiving sides and trimmings, and gift cards. During the month of November, you can deliver your donation to their warehouse at 2 Executive Drive in Morris Plains.

There are a couple of ways you can donate to Mercer County's Home Front. Between Nov. 11 and 20, you can drop food for a Thanksgiving Dinner at 1880 Princeton Ave., Lawrenceville NJ, 08648. You can also make a cash donation on their website or by phone at 609-989-9417 ext 107.
