A Roselle motorcyclist was arrested Sunday afternoon after police caught him near the Holland Tunnel using a retractable license plate to avoid paying the $15 toll, officials say.

Henry H. Pogue, 51, was was caught by police around 4:15 p.m. riding a 2010 Victory motorcycle through an EZ pass only lane in Jersey City, said Joseph Pentangelo, Senior Police Public Information Officer.

Port Authority police say they saw the license plate retract under the motorcycle so the plate could not be read as it went through an E-ZPass lane.

After approaching the 51-year-old, police say, Pogue activated a toggle switch and the license plate began to unfold from underneath the motorcycle. Pogue admitted he had not paid the toll and had no E-ZPass, police say.

Police also found a metal smoking pipe with suspected marijuana residue and a small container of suspected marijuana inside of a pouch on the motorcycle, according to Port Authority police

Pogue was charged with theft of service, possession of drug paraphernalia, having unclear plates and possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

He is due in Jersey City Municipal Court on July 26.
