How safe do you feel school buses are in New Jersey? The answer to that question may shock you. A television investigative team found that nearly half the buses fail their state inspections and some bus operators have even higher failure rates.

In an effort to be as transparent as possible and to make you feel safer, The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is posting school bus inspection results online. Here are some examples:

At Garden State Transport in Southhampton, 51.9 percent of the buses failed inspection in 2012 down from 64 percent in 2011. Both rates were above the state average of 47 per cent. In Medford, 83 per cent of the buses failed in both 2011 and 2012. It gets worse, in Galloway township, the failure rate at Integrity Transportation was 89.9 percent down from 92 per cent the year before.  How safe do you feel when you put your child on a school bus?
