According to a new study by NerdWallet.com, the U.S. city with the highest car insurance rates is Newark. A profile of a 26 year old man with a 2012 Toyota Camry, who has no accidents and insures the car with extended coverage, would pay an annual premium of $3,523.

Newark trailed only Detroit, New Orleans, and Grand Rapids, MI. Jersey City came in 7th most costly in the United States.

As bad as car insurance is here, I've stayed loyal to one company. From the time I was 17 years old, no matter which state I lived, I always stuck with the same car insurance company I have until this very day. I told someone this recently and they were shocked. Apparently it's more common to constantly shop for deals and change carriers frequently?
