RAMAPO, N.Y. — A state official says cash tolls will be around $14 when the new Tappan (TAP'-uhn) Zee Bridge opens in 2017.

A top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Larry Schwartz, gave the estimate Thursday night at a community meeting in Ramapo.

Current cash tolls for cars are $5.

The Journal News says commuter and E-ZPass discounts will continue.

The figure is in line with other Hudson River crossings.

Cash tolls on the George Washington Bridge will rise to $14 on the first Sunday in December 2014. Schwartz says that will likely go up again by the time the new Tappan Zee opens.

The new bridge will replace the aging, overused span that now crosses the Hudson River between Westchester and Rockland counties.
