How much homework is enough for students?

As school starts up this week, it won't be long before students will be given assignments for homework.

Homework is part of almost every student's curriculum but is there a dividing line between homework being a reinforcement of the day's lessons and it being completely overwhelming.

Eric Scott made the analogy of homework for kids being similar to working a full day at your job and then having to come home and do a few more hours worth of work that your boss will be asking you about the next morning.

If you take a couple hours a night for homework and add in extra curricular activities, that doesn't leave much, if any at all, downtime for the kids to just relax or do anything for themselves.
