A report from Doctor Gary Smith at the Center for Injury Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, contains good and bad news.

Good news: the number of small kids getting hurt in stairway falls declined almost 12 percent between 1999 and 2008.

Bad news: the study finds about 90-thousand childhood injuries from stair falls still occurred in the latest year of the study, 2008.

Experts say one positive development is the elimination of baby walkers.  But they also emphasize the, “V” word…vigilance…must still be a parent’s priority with kids and stairs.
