You might not realize it, but today is National Manufacturing Day – a day meant to educate members of the public about the importance of manufacturing to the economy, and what manufacturing careers are available.

During a visit to KWG Industries in Hillsborough, a metal manufacturer and distributor,  Assemblywoman Donna Simon discussed how to protect local manufacturing jobs in the Garden state.

“Manufacturing helps grow the economy because every job in the industry can create five others,” says Simon, who represents parts of Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer and Middlesex Counties, “manufacturing is one of New Jersey’s most important sectors that supports good-paying jobs for a highly-trained workforce. New Jersey’s manufacturing industry must remain competitive with other states.”

She points out 34 hundred manufacturers employ more than 125 thousand people in New Jersey, and “the companies of KWG Industries have more than a century’s worth of experience and they know what we need to do to help manufacturing remain a strong part of our local and state economy - manufacturing blends high-level technical skills and skilled craftsmanship, just the types of skills we need to build our economy stronger than ever.”

In honor of National Manufacturing Day, the group ManufactureNJ will holds a week-long public awareness event later this month.
