Back when I was in Our Lady of Grace in the year of the flood, I had a crush on Sister Patricia.

I know. I was a loser.

But there was something about that weird dynamic. The softness of her voice, my burgeoning pubescence.

And I was lucky. I had her for both 6th and 7th grades.

Still, the vision of the black habit, the dangling rosary beads, and the huge cross across her chest made even thinking about it verboten.

Besides, all bets were off the following year. I had a weeble wobble for 8th grade teacher.
In fact, most of the teachers in the school were weeble wobbles, which made that kind of attraction traumatic.

Fast forward to today.

Not too unusual to hear stories like the one
of the Clifton High School teacher who’s been accused of having sex with a 16 year old male student.

Kristin Leone, 26, was arrested after detectives launched an investigation Monday when high school administrators contacted police. The prosecutor’s office and Clifton police detectives executed a search warrant and collected evidence that showed Leone engaged in sexual conduct with the boy on two occasions, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Leone was arrested late Monday afternoon and charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of criminal sexual contact, luring and enticing a child and two counts of official misconduct. She was released on $100,000 bail Monday night.

She faces up to 10 years in prison.

Parent Robert Jones said he learned about the incident Monday evening from his daughter, a 10th grader.

"It was on Twitter,” Jones said. “All the students were communicating over it.”

And probably high-fiving the kid.

However, I wonder.

Is the double standard alive and well?

Were it a guy teacher on a young 16 year old female, we’d look to shoot the bastard!

Whereas, even though the law treats crimes like these equally, we don’t seem to look at it that way.

And what is it about attractive teachers that lures them to their young male students. Is it the power or the p.…uhhhh, well you know!
