Hospital to hold active shooter drill
The area around Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital will appear to be very busy on Wednesday afternoon but there is nothing to be concerned about as it's only a drill.
According to a statement on the RWJUH Facebook page, the New Brunswick hospital will host an active shooter drill between 3:30 p.m and 5:30 p.m. according to a post on the hospital's Facebook page which will include participants from PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital, Rutgers University, the hospital Mobile Health Services, the New Brunswick Police Department and Middlesex County’s Special Operations Team.
Although the hospital will operate as normal during the drill, personnel may be seen in full tactical gear hospital’s Employee Health Department at 181 Somerset St., as well as the hospital’s Administration and Emergency Departments. The main lobby areas of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School’s Child Health Institute of New Jersey may also be part of the exercise.
The drill will help all partners on our academic medical campus and law enforcement evaluate our response in the event an active shooter enters our campus to inflict harm on visitors and employees.
Signs will be posted throughout campus to inform visitors and employees that an active shooter exercise is underway.
