The state announced Wednesday that it would extend the deadline for applying for Homestead credits to Dec. 31. The original deadline was Friday.

The Treasury Department says the change will allow more people to apply. The state has only received about half of the total number of applications it expects to be filed, and officials say it's unlikely that all eligible filers would meet the upcoming deadline.

Senior citizens and disabled homeowners with incomes under $150,000 are eligible for the tax credit, as are other homeowners with incomes under $75,000.
