Hollywood’s sex symbols past and present
For a hundred years every decade has had it sex sirens and hunks.
I checked out several historical sources that named the hottest stars, past and present on the big ole' silver screen.
Most of the actors that were mentioned were fairly obvious. A couple of names that were universally mentioned were a surprise. Not that they're not good looking, but I personally wouldn't categorize them as iconic. As the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." It's all about personal preference. I am sure many of you, like me, will disagree with what I found. Perhaps you feel some names shouldn't have made the cut while a favorite of yours was omitted.
Here's he list is in no particular order.
Dame Elizabeth Rosemond "Liz" Taylor in my humble opinion is at, or very near the top of Hollywood's immortal sex symbols. From her days as a child star with MGM to her golden years she was "drop dead" gorgeous.
Elvis Presley wasn't called "The King" for nothing. He was one of the most significant icons of the 20th century. Between his music and movies he drove teens and women into a frenzy during every appearance.
It seems like it was light years ago that George Clooney was the heartthrob on the TV show "ER." Now he's an Oscar winning movie star with that great look and a wonderful personality to go with it.
Like some of our sexy stars, Halle Berry has had her personal ups and downs. One thing is certain, this gorgeous lady was on every Hollywood sexy icon list.
Amazing! James Dean is one of the most iconic sex symbols in Hollywood history. The incredible thing is that he appeared only three films.
How many guys had the poster of Raquel Welsh in that fur bikini from the flick "One Million Years B.C.?
Still a "Top Gun" at the box office. Hard to believe he's in his 50's. Mr. Cruise could pass for 25. Well, maybe 29.
Actor, producer, Brad Pitt is one of Tinsel Town's contemporary sex symbols.
I couldn't leave out Mae West. This bawdy lady was one of Hollywood's first sex symbols during the 1930's.
If there had to be a number one, Norma Jean would be it. 99.9 per cent of us would have to admit that Marilyn Monroe was and still is the quintessential sex symbol.
You and I could add a hundred names to this list. Just off the top of my head there's Hugh Jackman, Rock Hudson, Jayne Mansfield, Cary Grant, Lana Turner, Angelina Jolie, Susan Heyward and on and on.
Who's your favorite? If you have a comment, please let me know.
